Paper Crane Earrings
“I shall write peace upon your wings, and you shall fly around the world so that children will no longer have to die this way.” -Sadako Sasaki
This is a quote from a 12 year old girl who died of Leukemia after being exposed to atomic weapons in Hiroshima as an infant in 1945. She wanted to make 1000 paper cranes to heal herself but changed her wish into healing the world. She believed the wish to heal herself was too small and wanted it to touch the lives of others. It is believed if you make 1000 paper cranes a wish can be granted. Those around her helped her to finish her 1000 crane wish by the time she passed away. She was too sick at the end to finish herself. Her grave marker stands as a monument today; a little girl holding a paper crane standing on top of a bomb.
Paper cranes are known to grant wishes and bring success and good fortune. Cranes are known as the bird of happiness and its wings are believed to grant protection
These cranes have been coated in a protective layer making them sturdy and durable. However it is still recommended to not take them into water. After a lot of use if you wish to reinforce the paper, coat the crane in a layer of see through finger nail polish.
